Todd McFarlane Says The Spawn Reboot Will Be Faithful To The Comics

Image
Of all the comic book characters not to have been a product of either DC or Marvel, Spawn has undoubtedly emerged as one of the most popular around, no doubt helping put Image on the map back in the day. Not only that, but the anti-hero has headlined an animated series, and helped jump-start Todd McFarlane’s line of action figures that have also put out highly detailed toys for everything from The Matrix to Metal Gear Solid and even professional athletes! Well, there was also the eponymous movie that saw release in 1997, but a lot of fans choose not to talk about it. I mean, Michael Jai White was a great fit for the character and there were good intentions behind the project, but the final product ultimately missed the mark, with some suspect visual effects and campiness not helping matters at all. On the plus side, though, the soundtrack gave us what I thought to be one of Marilyn Manson’s best songs ever in the form of “Long Hard Road Out of Hell,” so it wasn’t a total loss. ...

Deadpool 2 Director Comments On Beating Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Opening

Image
Yesterday, the David Leitch-directed, R-rated farce,  Deadpool 2 , crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office. Coincidentally enough, we also learned yesterday that one of the year’s biggest blockbusters,  Solo: A Star Wars Story , probably won’t even reach the half-billion mark when all is said and done. Bafflingly, the Ron Howard-directed space western made just $84.7 million stateside opening weekend, a figure topped with ease by the foul-mouthed mercenary’s sequel, having hauled in $125 million upon its release, which was good enough for the second biggest domestic R-rated opening. Given that practically every  Star Wars  film to hit theaters under the tenure of Disney has grossed, at the very least, $150 million-plus upon release, the fact that Deadpool 2 bested the opening weekend total of Solo  is as much of a surprise to Leitch as it was to the respective fandoms. James Cameron Explains How The Avatar Sequels Will Revolutionize 3D

Image
We’ve spent a good portion of 2018 praising the box office triumphs of Avengers: Infinity War , and rightfully so. The Anthony and Joe Russo-directed blockbuster grossed an unprecedented  $250 million-plus stateside  opening weekend, subsequently becoming the fastest film to reach the  $1 billion plateau . Unfortunately, however, while the superhero flick does appear destined to eclipse the  $2 billion mark worldwide, which would make it only the fourth film to do so, Infinity War won’t come close to the record $2.788 billion grossed by James Cameron’s Avatar in 2009/2010. The film that revolutionized visual effects and 3D cinema, and took fifteen years to get from Cameron’s brain to the big screen, is currently undergoing the sequel treatment…an understatement if I’ve ever heard one. While Avatar 2 (2020) and Avatar 3 (2021) (both currently filming) won’t be with us for some time, and a fourth and fifth sequel possibly on the way, should the ori...
