Dispatches From Elsewhere: Jason Segel Series Greenlit at AMC
Jason Segel's place in television history is already assured with roles in prominent series like Freaks and Geeks and How I Met Your Mother.
Now Segel has decided to pad his resume and return to the medium that launched his career.
AMC announced at their TCA summer tour presentation that they've ordered a full season pickup of Dispatches From Nowhere, a mystery anthology series produced by Segel.
Dispatches From Nowhere will exist across multiple platforms (which is something of a trend at this year's TCA tour) and will be about a group of people who stumble upon a puzzle beyond the veil of ordinary life. The puzzle will lead to a deeper mystery far deeper than the characters ever imagined.
“AMC has a proven history of finding shows that rise above, in every sense, and we think Dispatches from Elsewhere will be an incredible addition to that club,” David Madden, president of original programming for AMC, SundanceTV, and AMC Studios said “This is a very special project based on a truly unique premise and peopled by vivid characters, all driven by Jason’s wildly creative vision. We’re thrilled for audiences to see this bold, witty and enthralling series.”
Segel created the series and will star. This will be his first TV series since How I Met Your Mother. He's gone on to be a successful comedic actor an writer in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets, and Sex Tape. The news was first reported by Deadline.
AMC has gotten in the habit of not messing around with pilots at all, and picking up intriguing concepts straight to series. Dispatches From Nowhere joins Dietland and Lodge 49 as shows that have gone straight to series at the network.
There is no release date set yet but the series will begin filming in 2019.
