No, Marvel Hasn’t Shifted Avengers 4’s Release Date To April

Contrary to what some may choose to believe, Marvel is not presently preparing to push the domestic release date of Avengers 4 forward.

For those of you who don’t know, IMAX published a quarterly financial report yesterday which pegged the pic, currently slotted into May 3rd stateside, for an April 2019 release. Although the tidbit has led to plenty of fan speculation that the studio behind the highest grossing franchise of all-time will be moving the opening day ahead, this is not the case.

As I’m sure most of you recall, in early March of this year, Marvel pushed the release date of Infinity War ahead a week, from May 4th to April 27th, in hopes of mitigating the outbreak of spoilers. While Kevin Feige and co. may still ultimately decide to move Avengers 4 up to coincide with the film’s various international release dates, the IMAX quarterly financial report was merely referencing “when the movie will first appear in IMAX’s global theatrical network.”

Globally, the much anticipated sequel is due to hit France on April 24, Germany on April 25 and the UK on April 26, with the rest of the international rollouts starting on May 2nd. Put in layman’s terms, pretty much everyone else is getting Avengers 4 before us, and at the moment, unfortunately, there’s no plan in place to suggest otherwise.

Now, this isn’t to say that Marvel won’t be moving Avengers 4 ahead within the next ten months or so, but as it stands, the epic, groundbreaking conclusion to the first decade of the MCU is unchanged. Regardless, should it prove to be the blockbuster we all expect it to be, I doubt any of us will take issue with waiting a week when all’s said and done.
