Charmed Reboot Poster Draws on the Power of Three

The CW has shared a poster for the upcoming reboot of Charmed, which will follow a new trio of magical sisters: Macy (Madeleine Mantock), Mel (Melonie Diaz) and Maggie (Sarah Jeffery). The reboot was developed by Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin), Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin (Selfie). The show was ordered to series at the beginning of the summer, following a pilot order in January, and is set to make its debut on The CW on Sunday nights, starting in October.

The first episode of Charmed was screened at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, where the main cast members also made their debut during a panel that promised to "honor [the original] while bringing a modern twist." The show's cast also includes Rupert Evans (The Man in the High Castle) as the sisters' whitelighter, Harry, who will offer them guidance as they try to come to grips with magic.

The reboot will follow a similar premise to the first series, with the three Vera sisters learning that they each have powerful magical gifts, which grow stronger when they are together. The show is unconnected to original, and none of the original actresses are expected to guest star. Check out the new poster for Charmed below.

The response to the news of the reboot has been mixed so far, with many fans regarding it with understandable skepticism. Holly Marie Combs, one of the stars of the original series, commented, "I will never understand what is fierce, funny, or feminist in creating a show that basically says the original actresses are too old to do a job they did 12 years ago." The original show debuted in 1998 and ran for 8 seasons, finally concluding in 2006.

The CW has four other new series coming this fall: sports drama All American, Vampire Diaries spinoff Legacies, a reboot of Roswell, and a police procedural called The Dark, about a blind woman who solves crimes with the help of her dog. Time will tell which of this series will manage to make it to a second season amid The CW's busy lineup of shows, but if Charmed succeeds in capturing the magic of the original, we could be seeing a lot more of the three sisters in the future.
