Movie I can’t remember.

My mother passed away this past Saturday night and I need help in remembering the title of a movie. I have no idea who starred in it but I remember it had something to do with something or someone passing away and their spirit living on through other animals or beings. I think the main actress called them her familiars. Sorry for a vague explanation. I just really want to figure it out so I could watch it because I’m just looking for stuff to remember her by. I feel like one of her familiars was a cat if that’s helpful. And the movie had to have came out late mid to later 90s or early 2000s.
